hanging with mr. cooper

I can’t even tell you how well Cooper behaves around Sophie. She pulls his ears. Pulls his fur. Pulls his chops. He just looks at me with these eyes. They ask me, “Mom, do I have to let her do this?”. He knows he does. I just look at him. Smile. Give him tons of kisses and ear scratches and then ask him if he wants to go out back to play ball. THAT makes it all better =)

stinky feet

Little Miss Sophie has found her feet! It is probably the cutest site I have ever seen. I just hope she doesn’t bit her toes by accident…yep, she’s got a tooth (bottom right for the curious ones out there)!

for your eyes only

For some time now I have really been wanting to do a boudoir shoot. I know what you are thinking…um, Jennifer, that’s not a baby or a dog! I know and it’s totally out of my realm but I had a model and I had my camera - that’s about all I need.

I think one of my favorite things about being a photographer is meeting new people and finding out what makes them tick. From the very minute I speak to a prospective client my goal is to establish good rapport. I like to think I am pretty successful at it too. I want my shoots to be fun, casual and relaxed - having a good rapport allows my clients to feel comfortable in front of the camera. I think this is especially crucial for a boudoir shoot too.

Since this shoot is something totally new for me…I looked to a great photographer to learn from - Tess Johnson. She is superb at what she does so I knew I couldn’t go wrong!

lately

So I’ve been busy lately. Actually if you ask me what I’ve been busy doing I can’t tell you. What I can tell you is that Little Miss Sophie keeps me on my toes - 24/7 - no doubt about that! I will admit I’m loving every second of it. Anyway, I apologize profusely for being out of touch.

Not too long ago my very good friends Becca & Brett asked me to do their maternity shoot. They are expecting their second child. I had the pleasure of doing their maternity shoot for their first little one Leah. She looks just like her daddy and is a doll. This time around we headed out doors to enjoy the summer weather.

inspiration

I read a variety of blogs daily as I am always looking for inspiration. There are even a blogs I check more than once a day! One particular blog sticks out in my mind and it is that of Erin Vey…Seattle’s Premiere Dog Photographer. A few weeks back she posted a ‘how to’ on pretty rad photo. So…I thought I would give it a try. Now I didn’t follow her ‘how to’ exactly as it is a little grainy but I am pretty pleased with the end result. Let me know what you think!

just one

Once a month I try to have a little photo shoot with Little Miss Sophie. I vowed to myself when she was born that I was going to document, document, document. Not just the momentous occasions but the changes from day-to-day. Month-to-month. So when I say I literally have thousands of photos of Little Miss Sophie - I am not joking in the slightest. I can never, ever pick just one photo of our gorgeous daughter to post…so here are about twelve of the chubbiest cheeks in town! Oh and she does smile…when her daddy walks in the room she lights up the room.

twinkle

I see it. Do you see it? Some babies have a twinkle in their eye and Noah’s got it. He was simply the happiest. All smiles & laughter. What more could I ask for?

mia & lexa

I consider myself someone who gets along easily with children but when you go into a shoot involving children, it’s always dicey. You hope and pray they are happy (don’t get me wrong - I’m always up for a challenge!). That they aren’t intimidated by the camera…but you can never tell. They can turn on a dime. Luckily, a couple of weeks ago I  had the pleasure of shooting two gorgeous young girls. Mia and Lexa. They are cousins but they are so close they should be sisters. They are definitely the best of friends. Mia and Lexa were an absolute delight to work with (as well as their mothers who by the way could pass for twins).

engagement

On Saturday, August 1st Jim proposed to me! I haven’t blogged about it for several reasons…I haven’t been able to find the exact words for it, I become emotional just thinking about Jim and the life we’ve had together thus far…and well, that’s enough for me to share about why.

For those of you who don’t know much about me I was married before. It wasn’t an abusive marriage in any way there was just something that wasn’t right. Something was missing. I just wasn’t happy.  I knew deep down in my soul we weren’t meant for each other. There were other issues going on in my life at the time that were playing their part in my failed marriage as well. Gratefully I worked through everything, was back on my feet and feeling confident. Feeling whole for once in my life. Before I knew it Jim entered my life. Well, we had worked together for several years but he was always ‘this guy’ at work to me and I ‘the married chick’ to him. Little did I know what a beautiful, caring, gentle and loving man he was (to everyone and everything). We quickly went from hardly knowing each other to knowing we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Please don’t think rebound. That’s hardly the case. I’ve had enough happen to me in my life to know things happen for a reason  - no coincidences in life.

We have been together for 5 years and it certainly doesn’t feel like it. I can honestly say I have never been happier in my life. I literally have a knight-in-shining armor, a gorgeous 4 month old baby girl and a ‘I would go to the ends of Earth for you’ canine. I don’t know that I could possibly ask for anything more. The weird part is when Sophie was born I fell in love all over again with Jim. I saw him in a different light. Pre-Sophie I saw how wonderful he was with Cooper - Cooper adored him just as much back - but then I saw him loving Sophie more than life itself. I felt my heart swell even greater for Jim.

I am at such a wonderful place in my life and I really have Jim to thank for it. He is without question my soul mate and I am eternally grateful to be able to spend the rest of my life with him.
