This little character was so fun, cheery and such a ball of energy! He was a blast to shoot with! And, I think the title speaks for itself… =)

flash

I’ve been putting off playing with my flash and soft box for what seems like years. Oh wait, it has been years. Sshhh, don’t laugh. To tell you the truth it is very intimidating to me. I know I need to just jump into it but ‘other things’ seem to get in the way. Just about a year ago I bought background paper and stands. Up until about a month ago, my darling fiance assembled it for me (yeah, Jim rocks!). Finally I bought some Pocket Wizards. So…here are the results. Please keep in mind, I have A LOT to learn but I thought it was a great start.

john & nicole

Small note: Yes, it’s been almost a month since my last post. Yes, I feel huge amounts of guilt but I have good reason. I’ve been trying to juggle being a photographer, a mother and being a “house manager” (as Jim calls it). It’s a lot harder than one would think. So of course the family has taken priority, then client work and then my blog. I apologize profusely.

So I don’t typically do engagements/weddings. Not because I don’t enjoy doing them it’s just…I’m a baby/dog kind of gal! However, John and Nicole are one of those couples who are definitely laid back, go with the flow…they basically told me I can do whatever I want. Now how can I turn down an offer like that? Do WHATEVER I want? Okay, that’s a no brainer. You’re on!! Here are a few photos from their engagement shoot. And by the way, if their wedding goes as well as their engagement session went I will be stoked!!

journey

About 5 years or so ago (when I was going through my divorce) I decided to train for another marathon. I thought maybe it would be a good idea to raise money for a charity so I chose to train with Team-In-Training through the Leukemia Society. The very first training run we had I met someone who I swore was one of my soul mates. It was just the strangest feeling as we just naturally gravitated toward one another for our first run. No words were necessary. We just ran. We knew we both had a ton of baggage on our shoulders. As we ran together through those long and grueling runs we realized we were both on a journey - a journey to heal and become strong again.

Two weeks ago, my friend Lauren - my soul mate, my running partner, my dear friend - married a wonderfully loving and beautiful man.  They asked me to photograph their family-only wedding and I have to say that I was extremely honored. I wouldn’t have turned it down for a million dollars.

I am not sure I have ever seen her any happier. Glowing. In love.  Happy. Yes, I said happy twice. It’s been a long journey for her and she is finally in a place where she feels whole again. I well up when I think about how much I love her and how she has found herself again. I wish she and Phillip a very long and loving life together.

Lauren Reider - I cried when I read this. Thank you for sharing these sentiments. You captured our journey, my journey, so beautifully. May I also say, "ditto" to you? You are glowing, in love and so, so happy too. And you deserve all of it! I love you very, very much.

feeling alive

Making the decision to have a child - it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.
-Elizabeth Stone

Sophie wakes up every cell in my body and makes me feel awake every day. I don’t think I’ve felt this alive - ever.

6 months

Little Miss Sophie is 6 months. I really am having a hard time believing this. I mean where did 6 months go? I was thinking today I can barely remember how tiny she was when we brought her home. The thought made me sad. I wish there was some invention which recorded every single minute of your life. That way I would be able to rewind back to the second she was born any time I wanted. Someone has to have invented this already. No?

Well, she had her 6 month appointment tonight. She did super!! Took the shots like a champ. She weighs 19 lbs and 3 oz. She is also 28 inches long. Yes, she is starting to slim down. I didn’t/don’t mind the chunkiness though. It is a very endearing quality.
